FAQ

Do I need to know anything about dancing in order to take tango lessons?

The only important thing is that you enjoy dancing. Tango is an urban traditional dance - it is learned during the very first lessons and danced, perfected and refined all your life.

Do I need special clothes or shoes?

Your clothes and shoes should be comfortable. The shoes used by avid dancers have heels of 6-8 cm for women and 3-4 cm for men, with soles made of leather for a better adherence. Women usually wear dresses or skirts, while the men wear fabric pants.
You should dress comfortably and be careful that your stylish details or accessories do not hinder your moves. As a general rule, sport shoes and sandals, no matter how comfortable, are too rigid for tango moves

Do I need a partner in order to attend?

The only must is your desire to dance; partners are changed around by the instructor after every two songs. Every tango dancer wants to meet and dance with new people. Moreover, as part of our teaching method, women and men learn each other’s technique – both women and men learn leading and following.
The actual gender of your dance partner does not matter.

How long does it take before I can dance tango?

This depends on each person’s ability. Our aim is to teach in such a manner that anyone could begin dancing since the first lesson and take part in a milonga starting the third or fourth lesson.
Based on our teaching experience, on average, women can dance after 2-3 lessons and men after 4-5 lessons.

Can I take also private lessons?

If you are a beginner we do not recommend private lessons because you cannot benefit from the atmosphere of a club that includes changing partners, meeting new people, experimenting with new styles - not to mention the fun generated by a group of people feeling good together. We recommend private lessons only to those who already have the basic technique and want to specialise in a certain style in a very short time.

Are there other sources for finding out more about Argentine tango?
There are three main sources.
One is the Internet (see also our links page).
The second one is Argentine tango music and the third one (that includes the second as well…) is dancing at the milonga.
